$50 FRIDAY: Velvet Crushin So Hard Right Now

October 14, 2016

Velvet is making a fierce comeback this season......
Guess what George!? IT IS NOW!!!!!
Although this revival has been happening slowly over the past few seasons, it can no longer be avoided as it is all around us now. I can't remember the last velvet piece I owned unless you count the Christmas dresses my mom made me wear every year when I was a little kid.
Luckily for me, I happen to love velvet. I love the way it feels, the way it drapes and hangs so perfectly, and of course the sultry/renaissance look.  It's versatile and luxurious and that's what this season is all about.
Velvet has been consuming all of my online shopping carts lately but I hadn't pulled the trigger on anything because it's definitely a fabric that you need to see/try before you buy. It can look VERY cheap at times but the right pieces, in the right color palettes are fabulous. Here's my take on the velvet trend........

Some other great velvet pieces from F21
I really love this velvet look because it's not overdone and the colors are just right for fall. This floral velvet crop top, the mauve longline cardi, the velvet wrap choker and EVEN THE SUNGLASSES are from Forever 21 and I purchased it all for less than $50!!!! If you haven't gone in there recently, you are seriously missing out. They have a lot of other awesome velvet pieces right now but for the look I was going for this top was just right. It's subtle yet sultry and with the long cardi draped over, it's the perfect casual look. This may sound weird but I've been dying to get my hands on a blue velvet pantsuit.  I know this is hard to believe but I just haven't found the right one yet.  I have no idea where or when I would wear it but I've been obsessed lately.  I may have to settle for a velvet tuxedo dress like this one......... HOW SICK IS THIS DRESS!?

If you haven't already, you're going to start noticing velvet now everywhere.  You'll see it on suits, dresses both long and short, skirts, shoes, boots and bags. You'll see it worn simply, on its own and you'll see it dressed up with brocades, sequins, beads and all sorts of embellishments.  It's a fun piece for fall and I think it's a trend everyone should try out at least once.   To incorporate this one into an every day outfit, shoot for simplicity.  Velvet is dramatic enough as it is so you don't want to overdo it.  If you're gonna try a velvet top try pairing it with a pair of ripped jeans to balance it out.  If you're going to wear a velvet skirt or pants, pair it with a simple white tee up top to keep it cool/casual.  I also really love the way a velvet slip dress looks with a good white tee underneath. That's the ultimate 90's look right there.

There's tons of great velvet pieces out there right now.  I do suggest buying it in the store rather than online because it can look very different in the pictures on the website.  If you are going to purchase it online, make sure you read the reviews.  They are super helpful when it comes to stuff like this.  To help you get started, I've linked some of my favorite velvet pieces for this season below.
As always, thank you for reading along today.  I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!!
