Summer Weekend Look - July 4th Edition

July 01, 2016

Happy July 4th Weekend friends!!!!!

Out of all my posts so far, I am most excited about this one.  I got to work with a really awesome photographer, Heidi D'Amelio from Hi-D Photography and I couldn’t be happier with the way the pictures came out.  She was really cool and very easy to work with….. Not to mention, she was super trendy, I felt like I should have been taking pictures of her.

I also had a breakthrough moment this past week.  I know for some this won’t seem like a very big deal but for me it was and it made me realize that I’m actually becoming a much smarter spender.  I haven’t devoted much time actively searching for a July 4th outfit but I have placed a few things in my Revolve shopping cart here and there.  I have seen a few $75 stars & stripes wildfox crop tops and typically that would be game over for me. For July 4th, 2014, I bought an $80 American Flag halter crop top and that thing has inevitably been in the bottom of my drawer since July 5th, 2014.  If I could go back in time, I would slap myself right then and there.  The things I would do with $80 these days……….. pay the electric bill, grocery shop FOR THE WEEK, put gas in my car perhaps?  What a waste of money!  Anyways, this year I smartened up and saw endless possibilities when staring into the colorful abyss that is my closet.  Part of my unique sense of style is getting creative with the clothes I already have and working them into my wardrobe in ways that people wouldn’t typically think to try.

So Ladies……… put down that American flag bikini and try switching things up this year.  Don’t fall victim to the $75 American flag crop top that you’ll wear once and never wear again.  If you’re going to buy something, make it something you will get a lot of use out of for the rest of the summer and be excited to break out when next year.  Unless every single article of clothing you own is black, you probably don’t even need to go out and buy a single thing.  We all have the essentials needed, we just gotta get a little more creative sometimes with how we put it all together.

My Summer look pictured above is my favorite so far.  This red off shoulder top is the best purchase I’ve made in a long time.  For all my girls out there who hate wearing a bra, this is THEE shirt for you.  It’s the Free People Tula Top and I found it at Saks Off 5th for $22 so obviously I bought it in periwinkle blue as well.  The off shoulder/ruffle look is so elegant and I just love how simple it looks with a delicate gold necklace and red lipstick.  I bought these white eyelet shorts from Zara as part of a matching set, super cute but it was not a good look for me, so I paired them with this top and instantly thought “July 4th Outfit”.  I have been using any excuse to break out this boater hat from Forever 21.  I have tried it on with just about everything but the hat in this look completes the outfit.  I find the boater hat style to be far more versatile than a fedora or floppy straw hat.  At first I was going to do the “Rosie the Riveter” bandana tied on my head so I could sneak some navy blue in there but the hat looked sooooooo much better.  I am absolutely obsessed with these block heel sandals right now.  I have been wearing them nonstop and I think they make this outfit the perfect Independence Day-to-Night look.  I could wear this outfit to a daytime BBQ and then step into the night scene without having to change a thing.

All in all, most of us probably have what we need to put together a chic holiday look but we just have to get creative with it!  I’ve put together something festive, but not cheesy 4th of July looks to get you through all of your holiday weekend plans without even having to leave the pool side.  Keep it simple by starting with a white base and then accessorize to get your red & blue in there.  Keep on scrolling to soak up some festive inspiration just in time for your Fourth of July BBQ, beach day, or rooftop party.

Hope you all have an awesome holiday weekend and as always, thank you for reading!  If you haven't done so already, follow me on Instagram for more outfits & inspiration.
